We meet in Central Square Muskoka Wharf, 800 Bay Street, Gravenhurst, Ontario. The Muskoka Wharf in Gravenhurst will be shinier on Wednesday nights, thanks to the Gravenhurst Charity Bike Night sponsored by the Muskoka Thunder Motorcycle Riders. View the gleam cast by beautiful motorcycles combined with the glint of the setting sun off the water as the Show and Shine wheels into town. If you're looking to see some stellar machines, meet some people in the know about all things "cycle" and want to help raise some funds for local charities, Central Square at the Muskoka Wharf is where you want to be between 6 pm and 8 pm
Gravenhurst Charity Bike Night is committed to raising funds to aid children in Muskoka. "Bike Night" allows motorcycle enthusiasts from locations across Central Ontario to experience their passion and give back to their communities and we thank you.
Gravenhurst Charity Bike Night is committed to raising funds to aid children in Muskoka. "Bike Night" allows motorcycle enthusiasts to experience their passion and give back to their communities. In 2017 with the help of our dedicated volunteers and through the generosity of our sponsors and weekly bike enthusiasts $11,000.00 was raised.
Muskoka Thunder was pleased to be able to donate to $ 1000.00 to a special little boy in Gravenhurst. Ethan was born January 2013 at 25 weeks, weighing a mere 500 grams. He suffered bilateral Grade 3 brain bleeds, which in turn caused brain damage. At 18 months he was diagnosed with Spastic Diplegia Cerebral Palsy, which means that the muscles in his lower extremities are very tight, in turn making it very difficult to walk.
Doctors told the family Ethan had a 25 per cent chance of survival soon after his birth with little or no quality of life.
However, the plucky little boy has proved them wrong, and now has a chance at a better life if his family is able to raise around $120,000 for surgery in St. Louis, that, according to his mom, if it is successful, might enable Ethan to walk independently in all environments.
Unfortunately the surgery is not covered by OHIP and the price of the surgery is $47,000 U.S. This does not include the five-week stay in St Louis or transportation. Also he will need six months of intensive therapy following the surgery to help him learn to use the correct muscles for walking, again not covered by OHIP.
The surgery is tentatively scheduled for January 2017 in hopes that Ethan will be fully recovered by the time he starts school September 2017.
Without our great Charity Bike Night sponsors, our wonderful members and everyone who comes out on Wednesday nights to support our causes and charities, we wouldn't be able to help this little boy and his family.
We look forward to seeing everyone this season, bikers and non-bikers so that we can help as much as we can.
